Q. Do I need a sponsor?
Yes. All applicants under Tier 4 (General) Student and Tier 4 (Child) Student need a sponsor. The academic sponsor is the education provider offering the applicant a place on a course of study in the United Kingdom. An education provider will need to have registered with the UK Border Agency as a licensed sponsor. They will need to meet the requirements for the particular category within Tier 4 and accept certain responsibilities to help with immigration control. All sponsors are given an Highly Trusted, A rating or B rating when they join the register. A 'B' rating is a transitional rating and means that the sponsor is working with the UK Border Agency to improve their systems. While Financial Sponsor could be applicant himself, parents or legal guardian who is willing to support financially.
Q. If I enter the UK as a visitor can I change to a student?
No. You can only apply to extend your stay in the UK as a student if you originally entered the UK with a Tier 4 student visa. If you are in the UK as a visitor and you want to study for longer than your current approved visitor stay, you must return to your home country to obtain the correct student visa.
Q. What are the new English language requirements for a Tier 4 student ?
The new English Language requirements makes it mandatory for students coming from non-European countries to prove their English Proficiency by taking any of the English Proficiency tests approved by UKVI .The list of approved tests can be found at http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/applicationforms/new-approved-english-tests.pdf
Q. What does a Valid CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) mean?
Basically it is a electronic document that is created by UKVI licensed sponsor to demonstrate that they have accepted an applicant to join one of their courses in the UK. The applicant must note the unique fourteen digit reference number for their CAS on the appropriate field on their application form. The CAS must be issued no longer than 6 months before the date of application, otherwise it will expire.

What is Proof of funds?
The money you need to show covers your course fees for your first year of study and living costs for up to a maximum of nine months. The amount you will need depends on whether you are applying as a child or adult and also whether you will be studying in or out of London.
You must show that you have held the money for at least 28 days. The end of that 28 day period must not be more than one month before the date of your application. You must show the following amount of money to meet basic living costs (not including fees) for period of up to 9 months:
• £800 per month if you are living in London;
• £600 per month if you are living outside London.

Q. Why is there such variation in processing times between different locations for the same visa categories?
Each application is unique. Time variations depend on current demand in each location, the numbers and types of application and the distance between the visa application center and the visa processing center where UK Border agency staff decide applications.
Q. What happens if my visa is not returned within the standard time?
Most of the visa applications decided by UKVI as per standard time given at its website. If your case if exceptionally complicated it could take longer then usual. In case of any delay(s) UKVI may contact individuals to define the situation.
